Dries Depoorter is a freelance in Belgium. He worked precently on electronics and computer science. He qualify itself as a media artist.

Android wants show the wifi performance

In a new update of Android, Google add a new feature to wifi settings. Maybe a usefull feature but only open on the free and known wifi. The company present it on his twitter :

” Public Wi-Fi can be spotty. For the first time, #AndroidOreo 8.1 lets you take out the guesswork & see the speed of networks before you hit connect. Rolling out now: https://goo.gl/ksohn2 ” – @Android

How it work ?

On each free and known wifi (not private protected wifi) a label is prepended to the status of the hotspot as you can see on the picture. This label can take four string.

• Slow: If you can use Wi-Fi calling, you can make phone calls and send texts.
• OK: You can read webpages, use social media, and stream music.
• Fast: You can stream most videos.
• Very Fast: You can stream very high-quality videos.

Just now, this native feature is only available on the last Android Oreo 8.1

 

The death of Natural Intelligence to the benefit of Intelligence Artificial

This title is a little bit strong depend on referencial. The last year Google company demonstrated his strength with AlphaGo developed by Google DeepMind by beating the world best player on Go game.

Less than 30 years ago, we thought that never a computer would beat a human on chess game. But now, where is this science ?

On Google’s side, the DeepMind department has stopped the research on game. Just after optimize his artificial inteligence. They stopped with AlphaZero created in december 2017 after beated all human player and artificial inteligence like AlphaGo on go game, chess game and Shōgi. They continu their research in other optimization as the electricity optimization. Good result with an important electricity economy in a datacenter for the air cooling and the computer power. Decrease of electricity expenditure and increase production of each computers.

Recently, Microsoft and Alibaba have obtained better score as human on lecture comprehension.

We know an enormeous variety of artificial inteligence on music creation, drawing creation, and many other form of art.

Military research work on armed drone, inteligent vehicule. Other company try to create meta artificial inteligence able to develop other application from a description. So this year is probably an important year to artifical inteligence science almost only limited by our imagination.

BattleDev 2017

Last Tuesday,

I was able to participate to the BattleDev 2017, a developer competition to test your skills. This competition is organized by Le blog du Modérateur & many partner firms. Since 2015, I try to participate each years to training myself on algorithm.

This competition is composed of six exercises over a period of two hours. The purpose is to validate as many exercises as possible in two hours. At the end, the top developers win gifts, like Microsoft Surface Pro, Apple Watch, Headphone, and others…

I haven’t the skill to win this competition but the exercises are really interesting to try to optimize my “conception skill”, to develop best algorithm for the exercise. In this 2017 session, I have resolved the fourth algorithm.

After two hours of intense reflection and solving the first four problems. I have finished to 58th place for Node.JS. Few day later, many firms call the different developers to offer internship or job.

With competition, you’re not looking for the companies but the companies search you. Each competition like this allows you to challenge yourself, win gifts and show your skills to several companies.

Absolutely awesome, It’s my first post on this blog. Not really the first lines because I have already wrote “About” & “Contact” pages but honestly is the first post edited with this amazing content.
